Part of the Michael Lewis collection of eight vehicles being sold by ACA.
This 1192cc Volkswagen Beetle with oval rear window dates from 1956 but was reregistered in June 1979. It was acquired by Mr Lewis in 2000. We are told that the car was dry-stored from 1967 to 1995 before being recommissioned and then received some restoration work - including a respray with new rubbers etc - around 20 years ago. It was then dry-stored again for the past 10 years. The engine was also rebuilt around a decade ago but hardly used since. New carpets have just been fitted. The car was running when stored, but will obviously require some recommissioning to bring it back to the road. The odometer shows 08801 miles (which is at least 108,801 miles according to the paperwork, although some of that was on a replacement engine) and four registered keepers are shown on the V5C since 1979. There's no record of an MoT back to 2005, when online MoT records began. However, as an historic vehicle, the VW is now MoT-exempt.
The history file dates back to 1956 and includes the V5C, original buff logbook, photos, and selected MoTs back to 1966. There's also invoices back to the 1960s, a book on The Beetle: Production History of the People's Car and one on The 1949-1959 VW Beetle Authenticity Series plus an instruction manual and service booklet.
